Canopy Management: How to Train Classic OGs vs. Dense Compound Genetics Exotics
A common mistake among hobbyist growers is treating every strain exactly the same way in the grow room. Mixing classic gas profiles with modern selections from Compound Genetics requires an understanding of different plant structures. If your canopy is uneven, some plants will starve for light while others suffer from light burn.
We have spent months charting the vegetative morphology of several iconic lines to help you plan your canopy layout:
• The OG Structure (Skywalker OG, Ghost OG, Platinum OG): These classic varieties are notorious for their thin, lanky “stretching” phases during the first three weeks of flowering. They require a double trellis system or intensive super-cropping to prevent branches from flopping under their own weight.
• The Compound Genetics Structure (Candy Pavé, Jokerz Candy): These modern exotics grow much stockier with tight internodal spacing. They do not stretch heavily, but they produce massive, broad fan leaves that require strategic pruning (scrog method) to keep airflow moving through the lower canopy.
Nursery Log & Availability:
To avoid a chaotic tent layout, group your lanky OGs together on one side of your room and keep your stocky Compound Genetics selections on the other. Fully rooted, high-vigor starters of both structural types are currently available in our SoCal network.
